Parents often turn to special education advocates or parent educators to help them navigate the complex world of IDEA and ensure their children receive legally entitled services. Advocates or parent educators serve as critical supports, especially when parents feel unsure or need extra support to balance power dynamics. How people advocate for children with disabilities can make a significant difference in home-school relationships, how the IEP team functions, and ultimately student outcomes. Research shows when families and schools approach IEP meetings as partners, children are better served, conflict is reduced, trust is built, and student outcomes improve. Yet achieving that partnership takes skill, intention, and a shared commitment to collaborate.

This 90-minute webinar introduces CADRE’s Collaborative Advocacy principles and translates them into concrete, actionable strategies for the IEP process. Designed for advocates, educators, district leaders, and anyone who supports families navigating special education, this session explores what it looks like when everyone at the table — from the parent advocate to the district administrator — commits to a relationship-building approach with the child’s needs at the center.

Guest speakers include Crystal Sanford, M.Ed., M.A., and Angela Balsley, Ed.D.
